What's

WPHLS?

The mission of the Women’s Pre-Health Leadership Society (WPHLS) is to provide a forum for young women to inspire and empower one another, while addressing the current healthcare and professional issues and concerns facing all women, and promoting the next generation of female physicians and scientists.

Community Service

WPHLS leads community service projects related to women, health disparities, science, and health care. Recent service projects include our mentoring program BLAST (Bringing Ladies and Science Together), an interactive public health lecture series for residents of Project PLASE homeless shelters, and volunteering with adolescents with brain disorders at the Kennedy Krieger Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Mentorship

WPHLS members participate in mentoring programs such as BLAST: a program designed to motivate middle school girls to pursue a career in the sciences. Members also receive mentorship themselves from Johns Hopkins Medical School students and JHU pre-professional advisors.

Networking

WPHLS members coordinate networking events with pre-professional advisors, professors, medical students, and health-related professionals.  Distinguished speakers include CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine Dr. Paul Rothman and one of Time Magazine’s Top 100 Most Influential People Dr. Deborah Persuad among others. Members also receive access to resources and guidance through the medical school application process.
